Trade Analysis: Transpacific

Situation

The situation on this trade remains calm, with low demand and several carriers having adjusted their services, particularly for the US West Coast, to align with market conditions. Rates have dropped below 2,000 USD for a 40-foot container to the US West Coast. Demand has been slightly higher at the US East Coast, partly because no extra capacity was added on this route, as the focus was on the US West Coast.

Obstacles

Despite the fact that capacity on this trade has been significantly reduced in recent days, space remains available. Stock capacities in the US are good thanks to heavy pre-shipping, which began at the end of 2024.

Outlook

Carriers will continue to adjust capacity according to demand to keep rates at a reasonable level. They are also waiting for the outcome of the tariff negotiations between China and the USA, as the mid-August deadline for lower tariffs is approaching.
