A total of 1,160 pairs of new working shoes in various sizes had been stored in the company's warehouse in Bratislava for several years. Since the recipient never came to pick up the shipment imported from the USA, it was not cleared. “At the recipient’s request to destroy the goods under customs supervision, we offered the possibility of donating the goods to people in need,” says Tibor Majzún, Managing Director of cargo-partner in Slovakia. The company addressed the Customs Office in Bratislava to request the permission to donate the shoes for charitable purposes: “We want to thank the Customs Office branches at Miletičova and the Port of Bratislava for making this exception from standard procedure, allowing us to donate the shoes to non-profit organizations instead of destroying them in the incinerator. We are very glad that the shoes can now serve people in need,” added Tibor Majzún.
cargo-partner addressed several non-profit organizations, arranged customs clearance and provided all necessary documents. On March 19, 2018, cargo-partner delivered 200 pairs of shoes free of charge to Domov pre každého, 150 pairs to STOPA Slovensko, 210 pairs to Vagus, and 600 pairs to Depaul Slovensko. All of these are Slovakian non-profit organizations focusing on supporting homeless people by providing shelter, healthcare, counseling, job search help, field social work and a wide range of other projects.
One of these organizations, STOPA Slovensko, offers work therapy for clients who have lost their daily work routine during their lives on the street. Pavol Sabela from STOPA explains: "It is a combination of social work and urban ecology. Our clients work on the revitalization of long-neglected green areas, such as small gardens in front of the buildings, forgotten parks, senior homes etc. They need good working shoes for all these tasks. Thanks to the donation from cargo-partner, this problem will be resolved.”
